In addition, the Archive contains extensive files on artists who have shown at Artpace and a constantly growing Texas Artist Registry that serves as the definitive source for artists living in the state.

Lesson Plans - A variety of grade-specific lesson plans based on themes and concepts found in contemporary art are available for your classroom. Educators who are involved in ArtElements have access to additional curricula complete with images, as well as lesson plans designed for pre- and post-session use as reinforcement tools.

Teacher In-Services - These training sessions are conducted year-round at Artpace and in conjunction with other museums. In addition, educators may arrange for a special half- or full-day session in their district.

Tours

Students are always invited to explore Artpace on their own, or an educator may register students in ArtElements, Artpace's organized programs for K-12 students which integrates themes and processes of the contemporary art featured in Artpace's exhibitions. Students look at contemporary artwork, learn vocabulary and concepts, create a project in response, and reflect upon what they have learned. Programs foster interdisciplinary connections, using an inquiry-based approach that encourages students to engage with art as a primary source for learning. ArtElements programs entail multiple interactions with contemporary art, are grade-specific, and are keyed to national and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards for fine arts.

Mini-Session - Mini-Sessions introduce students to contemporary art and teach grade specific vocabulary and concepts. Each session includes a planning meeting, two or more art encounters (at Artpace or in the classroom), as well as an art activity.

Semester Program - In these extended programs, an Artpace-trained artist works with a school group or organization to conduct weekly lessons in contemporary art. Semester Programs include sessions at the institution, as well as at Artpace. Students are guided in weekly art projects and maintain journals or a written account of each session.

¿Como Vives? - For two months students engage in sustained interaction with a single Artpace exhibition, focusing on the artist's chosen themes, media, and process. Students create their own artwork in response to the program and share their results in a special critique session with the exhibiting artist(s) and other participating student groups.

University

Faculty members are encouraged to consider Artpace's exhibitions and programs while developing their courses. Artpace resources include guided tours, lectures by visiting artists and staff, and an extensive Archive, which is accessible for research by students and faculty. Artpace also offers structured internships in Archive, Curatorial/Education, Public Relations/ Development, and Studio/Exhibition Practices.

Partnerships

ArtSmarts - Artpace offers high school and junior high students practical training opportunities and intimate views of our resident artists' production process through sessions with Artpace staff. ArtSmarts also supplements programs at SAY Sí, an artist-training center for urban San Antonio teens, by funding a competitive, paid summer internship that is designed to build the student's base of skills.

Hearts and Art - This program connects children in the care of local human service agencies with contemporary art. Artpace is proud to be the only contemporary art space that partners with the Healing Arts Project, an organization bringing art to kids in need of healing. Through this program Artpace facilitates activities for young people in community centers, group homes, or foster care.

Holiday Window - Each year Artpace celebrates the holiday season by giving over its Main Avenue windows to a group of young people at a local school or community center. The students create an artwork guided by a mentor artist and are given an opening reception in early December.
