ARTPACE INVITES TEXAS ARTISTS TO SUBMIT MATERIALS FOR RESIDENCY PROGRAM
SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE: 5:00 PM, MONDAY, AUGUST 30, 2004

ArtPace | San Antonio announces the 2006 International Artist-in-Residence program call for submissions. Those selected from this call will be on a shortlist of Texas artists whose work will be reviewed by three guest curators selecting artists for ArtPace's 2006 residency program.

Since its opening in 1995, ArtPace has invited more than one hundred artists at various stages in their careers to participate in the International Artist-in-Residence program. Three times a year the residency program welcomes three artists—one from Texas, one from elsewhere in the United States, and one from abroad—to live and work in San Antonio for two months. The goal of the residency program is to give artists space and time to imagine new ways of working. The cutting-edge artworks produced at ArtPace are as likely to employ video, film, found objects, performance, and light, as they are paint, stone, or metal.

A residency at ArtPace includes travel expenses, a weekly living stipend, a materials budget, an apartment, and studio/exhibition space. Resident artists have access to fully equipped wood, metal, and computer graphic design workshops, as well as technical and administrative support. The residency is followed by a two-month exhibition of the project created, which is documented and accompanied by a full-color brochure.

While guest curators select resident artists, ArtPace assists by creating a shortlist of Texas artists whose work displays the innovation that ArtPace cultivates. Each year three guest curators review materials and may conduct studio visits with those on the shortlist in order to select a Texas artist. With the attached form artists residing in Texas can apply to be considered for the shortlist used by guest curators to select 2006 ArtPace residents.

Applicants must reside full-time in Texas. Former ArtPace residents are ineligible, as are full-time students.

Applications should be postmarked or delivered by 5 PM, Monday, August 30, 2004. Shortlisted artists will be notified by Friday, November 19, 2004.

Applications must include:
