As part of its ongoing series WindowWorks, Artpace commissioned Los Angeles- based artist Yunhee Min to link Artpace's façade with an empty storefront on historic Houston Street in downtown San Antonio. Min used a custom-mixed palette to create 'banded' color field paintings and installations that interact with the architecture they inhabit and fuse traditions of abstraction and social sculpture. With Double Positive, Min innovates her approach to site-specific artwork: for the first time she exposes the unique dimensions of a site by mirroring its irregularities. For the trapezoidal space behind Artpace's windows, she created a four-sided structure which reveals that, despite appearing harmoniously square, the area is actually quite irregular. Similarly Min mimics the interior space of the Stuart Building's four window bays by constructing walls that highlight idiosyncrasies of each. A conceptual map links the two constructions. This map appears at each location and in the August 19 issue of the The Current, San Antonio's weekly alternative newspaper. Through its various manifestations, Double Positive continues Min's efforts to disrupt traditional relationships to space by combining formal abstraction with the socially bound practice of site-specific works. On view July 29 – November 14, 2004 at 445 N. Main Avenue and 306 E. Houston, San Antonio.
